In recent years, along with global climate change, the geological medium seems to be undergoing some significant global changes which affect virtually all of Earth’s structure from the core, mantle, and lithosphere, to the hydrosphere, atmosphere, and ionosphere. In addition, certain tendencies for global changes within the Solar System have also been observed.
The international scientific community cannot help but be anxious about these facts, for the presently observed substantial growth in geodynamic activity has become apparent even to non-experts. As specialists in earth sciences, it is our duty to provide timely alerts, and to focus the attention of the international community and politicians from various countries on combining their efforts to develop effective solutions to reduce the number of casualties and the damage caused by natural cataclysms.
To this effect, following an initiative by a number of international organizations and a group of scientists, a Communiqué on issues of Global Changes of the Geological Environment, GEOCHANGE, was drafted in 2009 to be presented to the UN, EU governing bodies, other international organizations, and heads of state. Prominent scientists from many countries of the world have already signed the Communiqué. To implement the program, the International Committee on issues of Global Changes of the Geological Environment, GEOCHANGE, has been established, involving worldwide well-known scientists who have signed the Communiqué. The Communiqué is open for signing by earth scientists, by scientists from other fields of study, and by known public and political figures.
The GEOCHANGE International Committee addresses you with a proposal to support this initiative and join the Communiqué participants. Your contribution is going to be of invaluable significance for both the GEOCHANGE International Committee and for the stable development of world civilization. The GEOCHANGE International Committee expresses gratitude for your support.
